Kar Sevaks

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term Kar Sevak is used to refer to people who offer their services for free (volunteer) to a religious cause. It originates from the Sanskrit words kar (hand) and sevak (helper).

It has been used to refer to people who helped build the controversial Ram Janmabhoomi temple at the site of the demolished Babri Mosque, as well as people who demolished the Mosque. These referrals are considered controversial.

After Operation Blue Star, Kar Sevaks helped in rebuilding the Harmandir Sahib, the holiest Sikh shrine.
