[edit] Notability

Separate from the copyright issue, I'm concerned that this article may not satisfy the notability requirement at WP:ORG. -FisherQueen (Talk) 11:11, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

It states in WP:ORG that "Organizations whose activities are local in scope are usually not notable unless verifiable information from reliable independent sources can be found."

Does a mention on the Rutgers Website fufill this requirement? We can be found here on the Rutgers Newark site: http://csnet.newark.rutgers.edu/webdev/robeson_old/site/modules0ace.html and also here on the NJIT site: https://www.njit.edu/v2/activities/ifsc.htm

We are also listed on the US News website and can be found listed here: http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/college/directory/brief/drextras_2631_brief.php

We are also mentioned in the Observer newspaper here:http://media.www.rutgersobserver.com/media/storage/paper822/news/2005/10/17/News/Is.It.greek.To.You-1022239.shtml?sourcedomain=www.rutgersobserver.com&MIIHost=media.collegepublisher.com

Is this notable enough? Please let me know as I would like to get this page up.

Also just as a side note, there is a local sorority by the name of Kappa Psi Epsilon from California and they are also local. They can be found on your site here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kappa_psi_epsilon

The page is not quite as informative as this one and it was still considered fine for Wikipedia.

Please let meknow what I can do.

Thanks once again

To meet WP:ORG you need, not sources that mention the organization, but sources in which the organization is the main topic. -FisherQueen (Talk) 11:53, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Am I to believe that every Local Greek Organization listed on Wikipedia has provided sources that mention their org as a main topic? This just doesn't makeany sense as I have seen many that clearly do not. Here is a source that lists Kappa Psi Epsilon Inc. as a main topic: www.kappapsiepsiloninc.com

The organization's own web page does not demonstrate notability. Notability is demonstrated when nontrivial independent sources outside the organization are writing about the subject. We don't judge articles by comparing them to other articles. If we did that, then no article here would be any better than the worst one. Instead, we judge articles by comparing them to the guidelines we've agreed on. If you're interested in working to improve the quality of Wikipedia's coverage of Greek organizations, we'd love to have you on the team... I'm sure there are lots of them here that could be improved or that should be deleted.-FisherQueen (Talk) 12:06, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Where would I demonstrate "notability" on the page? Maybe you could help me out with that. Also, if notability is the issue, then why is the article marked for deletion because of spam content?!!!Christina3kye 12:13, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

You would demonstrate notability by explaining in the article what makes this organization notable, and including links or references to the multiple nontrivial independent sources that verify that information. notability, advertising content, and conflict of interest are all guidelines that are problematic in this article- the tag is spam because that's what the first person to tag it thought was the most important problem, and it's not necessary to place multiple deletion tags on an article. -FisherQueen (Talk) 13:07, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

If you are going to tag it, please tag it with the appropriate tag. Also I have since revised this article and there is not advertising content or conflict of interest. The article is neutral now (admittedly prior to changes it did contain a promotional tone)and this shouldn't be an issue. Also in terms of notability, I saw this on Wikipedia as well:

"Wikipedia has many rules. Instead of following every rule, it is acceptable to use common sense as you go about editing. Being too wrapped up in rules can cause you to lose perspective, so there are times when it is better to ignore a rule. If you use common sense when editing, you are unlikely to break any rules."

Can't you give me a break? I'm not pushing porn here, its a harmless page about a sorority. Sheesh. Christina3kye 13:18, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi there. I'm an administrator showing up in response to the deletion tag. Please answer the question on your talk page, and we'll try to work this out to everyone's satisfaction. Kafziel Talk 13:26, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Kafziel,

[edit] Not Spam

I would like to address the fact that the articles tag has been changed to state that it is blatant advertising. This is not what was intended however I do see how before my edit it could have been construed as biased and so I have edited the article to make it more balanced. Again, this was not my intention; I simply wished to place Kappa Psi Epsilon Inc. among the ranks of the many Greek organizations listed on Wikipedia.

Christina3kye 11:55, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

This is taken from your page on "Blatant advertising". "Note that simply having a company, product, group, service, or person as its subject does not qualify an article for this criterion; an article that is blatant advertising should have inappropriate content as well".

Please point out where I have inappropriate content. It seems that all I have is Kappa Psi Epsilon Inc. as my subject. Christina3kye

[edit] Deletion request

I'm not deleting this at this time, as it asserts notability as an established sorority. The current title of this article isn't in keeping with our naming conventions, though. Since there is more than one Kappa Psi Epsilon, I am going to make that page a disambiguation page, and I am moving this article to Kappa Psi Epsilon (New Jersey) and am moving the other one to Kappa Psi Epsilon (California). I have also rewritten this article to remove inappropriate content (like the email address, and the name of the girl scout troop).

However, this doesn't mean that this article (both of these articles, actually) won't be deleted. I will try to help out with providing reliable sources to establish notability, but in the meantime the article may be sent to articles for deletion.

Give me about five minutes to make the above changes. Kafziel Talk 13:45, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks a bunch. I really appreciate it and hope we aren't deleted. Again, thanks. Christina3kye 14:12, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
Happy to help. I also tagged this talk page to add it to our project on fraternities and sororities, so someone from there will eventually show up to assess the article and offer suggestions. Good luck! Kafziel Talk 14:35, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
