[edit] Trivia

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.
  • Yamaguchi has starred in several projects directly opposite Takehito Koyasu; either as couples or related paired characters, with Yamaguchi playing the younger role. In 12 Kokuki they are the 2 prominent kirins (Enki and Keiki) in the story; in the Sukisho games and drama CDs they are a couple (Ran and Yoru); in the Tokyo Babylon OVA they are respectively Subaru and Seishiro. They also share more couple roles in many BL drama CDs.
  • Many, if not most of Yamaguchi's voice roles are teenagers or even younger boys. He is well-known for his ability to perform high-pitched, "young" voices. This is especially noticeable in BL dramas/games. His characters are generally straightforward, sometimes simple-minded, humorous and easily excitable but usually "good" characters.
  • Recently he has taken on different roles such as L in Death Note and Hugh in Kiba which are serious characters with a lower voice range. Hugh (in Kiba) was an exception in that it is not only an adult role but also a villain.
  • Yamaguchi's nick name is "saru", which means "monkey" in Japanese; translated into English, his personal web blog is titled: Monkey's Kingdom. Apparently this comes from his love for the monkey character in the classical Chinese story Journey to the West. He has actually voiced the monkey's role in an adaption of the original story, Monkey Typhoon and played the role in various stage adaptations. He has voiced several other roles in anime with monkey characteristics. This includes Taro Raimon (Eyeshield 21) who loves bananas, can hold things with his feet etc; Hideyoshi (Law of Ueki), whose first appearance was commented by a fellow character to be like a monkey; Hugh (Kiba), who, with the rest of his Jimoto ursupers are depicted visually bearing a trait of one of the 3 wise monkeys. His role Rokuta in the Twelve Kingdoms has also been address to be like that of a "monkey" by a fellow character, although this appears only in the novel and not the anime.
