Kaoru Matsubara is a fictional main protagonist in Demashita! Powerpuff Girls Z, a Japanese television anime based on the American television series The Powerpuff Girls. Machiko Kawana voices Kaoru. Her last name is named after Matsubara in Setagaya, Tokyo. Her alter ego is Powered Buttercup.

Kaoru is a fictional character from Demashita! Powerpuff Girls Z. Unlike the other two of the crime fighting trio, Kaoru is kind of a tomboy and loves sports, but hates fashion and girly stuff. She loves to skateboard as well as play sports. Her skill has made her very popular among sports fans. She is admired by Miyako( Rolling Bubbles). She protected a boy from the effects of Chemical Z, transforming her into her super heroine alter ego, Powered Buttercup. Kaoru is represented by stars.

Kaoru's Powerpuff weapon of choice is a yellow mallet with a pink star on the edge of it. This hammer is similar to that of Amy Rose in the Sonic X series. Kaoru's weapon is supposed to be a short range weapon, but it can shoot energy projectiles. Her main attacks are Swing Sonic, Hurricane Lutz, Megaton Dunk and Graviton Drive.
