Kanwaldeep

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kanwaldeep is a name common among the Sikhs in the Punjab region of India. It is derived from a combination of two Hindi words, kanwal and deep. Kanwal is a modification of Kamal, which means the lotus flower. Deep, means light or lamp. The literal meaning of Kanwaldeep is, the light emitted by the lotus, symbolically, it assumes a deeper meaning. The lotus is a flower known to grow from the sludge or mud in the bottom of a pond, the name then denotes one who faces all adversities with a brave face and rises above them. Another interpretation would be remaining pure amongst all the evils that exist in this world.
