Kanju

Kanju is a beautiful village situated on the bank of River Swat in the North-West Frontier Province, Pakistan.It is three KMs from Mingora, the main city of District Swat. The people belong to the the Yousafzai cast of Pukhtoons. It has a population of some 15000 people. The major source of earning is farming. It has some tourist attractions. The view of River Swat from Ayub Bridge in Kanju is magnificent. Prominent Personalities are: Malik (Chieftain) Malik Jamroz Khan and his sons Malik Abdul Akbar Khan Lala and Malik Nawsherawan Khan, Abdul Mabood (Jan Sahib), Malik Shah Bali Jan. Saidu Sharif Airport is just a mile away from Kanju. Its a small airport mainly used for domestic flights. Though Kanju is expanding rapidly but still it has a touch of country life.

The most developed place in kanju is 'Kanju Township'.It is situated near saidu sharif airport. The town is much popular among local visitors and is sometimes used for shooting purposes by local drama directors. The headquarter of FC (Frontier Constabulary)Swat is also situated in kanju, a few distance away from the main chowk. FC is a police force normally used to serve the local residents. Minister of Information Technology (NWFP) named Hussain Ahmad Kanju also belongs to the same village.There are considerable number of schools and colleges, though not highly equipped but provides high standard education. Some of the remarkable schools in the region are Govt: Girls Higher Secondary School Fazalabad, Iqra public high school, Hira school and Al Razi public school.

Mr. Fazal Rahman (Known as Sinana) is a well-known educator in Kanju village. He devoted his life to promotion of female education in the region. He donated his own land and property to form a girl’s primary school in the village and after struggle of 20 years he successfully brought the school to a Higher Secondary level. This school is now known as Govt: Girls Higher Secondary School Fazalabad Kanju.
