Kan-Etsu Expressway

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kan-etsu Expressway (関越自動車道 Kan'etsu Jidōsha-dō?) is a divided, limited-access toll road that connects the Kantō region and the Kō-Shin-Etsu part of the Chubu region of Japan. Its name comes from Kantō and Etsu.

The Kan-etsu has two routes. Both begin in Tokyo and end in Niigata Prefecture. One route goes to the city of Niigata, the other terminates in Joetsu. The Joetsu spur splits at Fujioka and is called the Joshin-etsu. The Joshin-etsu passes Karuizawa before it turns right (west) through Nagano before it reaches the Hokuriku expressway at Joetsu.

  • Oizumi Junction: Tokyo Gaikan Expressway
  • Tsurugashima Junction: Ken-O Expressway
  • Kan-etsu Tunnel: 11 km, longest in Japan
  • Nagaoka Junction: Hokuriku Expressway
