This image is used in so many articles, I can't figure out where the provided justification is attempting to apply. In any case, that an image of the person isn't otherwise available isn't a valid criteria for fair use on its own. --Gmaxwell 00:03, 5 March 2006 (UTC)

In complience with Wikipedia:Fair use:
  1. No free equivalent is available or could be created that would adequately give the same information.
  2. The material is not used in a manner that would likely replace the original market role of the original copyrighted media (as far as I know, this image is not for sale commercially).
  3. The material is encyclopedic and otherwise meet general Wikipedia content requirements.
  4. The material contributes significantly to the articles (e.g. identify the subject of an article, or specifically illustrate relevant points or sections within the text) and do not serve a purely decorative purpose.

No, that alone isn't sufficient and our use does impact the commercial value of the work, which is why the creator of this image has not released it under a free license. The image is also used completely without discussion in several places, there can be no claim of fair use there. And finally, your claim that a free equivlent could not be created appears to be wrong: These coins still exist, to create a free alternative of this image you would just need to see them and take a picture. In any case, don't go reinserting this in articles until we figure it out. --Gmaxwell 00:39, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
