I love this story.. I've been following the news on Kamuniak for quite some time and was surprised to see her name here on Wikipedia. She is living proof that their can be peace on Earth. If I ever met the lioness, I'd hug her, I really would.

Expanded this page with information from the Animal Planet website and the filmmakers' website. Another famous lioness is of course Elsa the Lioness and is recommended reading for those with an interest in one of the stories that brought wildlife conservation into prominence. IMHO, it's also a heartwarming story with a bittersweet ending.

[edit] Allowed them to return to their herd?

If I recall correctly the oryx were suffering from starvation as well, because they had nothing to feed on. Maybe I'm thinking of a different incident? 65.208.152.3 01:32, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

No, you are right. According to the television program both the oryx and Kamuniak were starving. The oryx badly needed milk, which of course Kamuniak was not able to deliver. Mlewan 04:54, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] A few corrections

I'm also a big fan of this remarkable lioness. I've made a few changes to tidy up the grammar. Also, the TV program was originally broadcast on the BBC in the UK. I've removed the precise dates when it was shown, because re-runs are continually shown on various channels in different countries.

Finally, I've linked the page to the presenter, Saba Douglas-Hamilton, because I originally wrote the Wkipedia article on her. --Portnadler 09:46, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
