Kamalapuram (Kadapa)

Kamalapuram is a mandal in Kadapa district which is 23 kilometres away from Kadapa city located on the Kadapa - Tadipatri highway. It is mainly agricultural based mandal. The Papaghni and Penna rivers are the main sources for irrigation and drinking water. Under British rule the Kamalapuram railway station was built, which is one of the oldest railway stations in India. On the Papaghni river there is large railway bridge connecting Kamapuram with Kadapa, a second bridge is under construction parallel to this old bridge as part of a line expansion from Renigunta to Guntakal.
Historically, this mandal is connected with Vijayanagara Samrajya ruled by Sri Krishnadevaraya. The Emperor alloted a village named Agraharam to the Astadiggajas (8 great poets) in his court.One of the Astadiggajas, Allasani Peddana was born in Peddanapadu village which comes under this mandal.
