The 1993 "Australia - The Rough Guide" talks about Tom Flannigan. I don't have a more recent version, so I don't know if this was a mistake that's been corrected. Anyway, is there a "right" spelling for the name? D.D. 11:44 Jan 20, 2003 (UTC)

Anyone know Luana Gilman from Kalgoorlie? 11:07 Dec 23, 2006

It's been spelt Flanagan every reputable place I've seen it. (Including the pub in Kalgoorlie named after him, for what it's worth.)

[edit] Largest City

There is no mention in the article of the single most impressive statistic relating to this city. Kalgoorlie Boulder occupies an area of more than 96000 sq Kms making it the largest city on earth.

Have removed the 'largest city' claim, anyone wishing to have the intricacies of the designation of a local government area, what it constitutes, and what a locality or townsite constitutes, please ask here, and this editor will try to explain. The mis-use of the word and the ambiguousness of the word city alone leaves me gobsmacked that this claim has not been challenged. SatuSuro 01:58, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
Good stuff, SatuSuro. Despite its name, the "City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder" is gazetted as an administrative division, not as a city. Possible the "City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder" can claim to be the largest local government area in the world - I don't know - but "Kalgoorlie" the city has no such claim. Snottygobble 02:04, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
Maybe but some are trying to reinstate the false claim :) SatuSuro 09:16, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
This is one claim that shouldnt be in the article Mount Isa has the claim there but its covers 42,000 sqkm and acknowledges Kal and a province in china as being bigger. Gnangarra 09:32, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Despite its name, the "City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder" is gazetted as an administrative division, not as a city. Sorry, that's not correct. The Local Government Act 1995, section 2.4 specifies that each district must be a city, town or shire. Kalgoorlie-Boulder is a city under that legislation. There is no such thing as an "administrative division" in Western Australian law.Paul Fisher 08:43, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] 2 dot maps

Is there any need for 2 dot maps in 1 article, they show the same thing. I'll remove the map without the roads it looks ugly anyway. Regards Hossens27 08:22, 4 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Infobox added

I have added an "Australian city" infobox, to make this page consistent with entries for other Australian cities.

I did not see the previous dot map that was deleted, so do not know what it looked like. The one I have added is consistent with the one included in all the other Australian city infoboxes, and multiple dot maps appear on some other entries. So I do not feel that there is a problem with having two on this page. What do others think?

Also, the statistics I have included for "area" and "population density" are the ones found here: http://www.kalbould.wa.gov.au/SectionHome.asp?ID=93&MID=2

I suppose these are technically and officially correct, but would it be more appropriate to use statistics referring to the actually inhabited area that comprises the city, rather than the (huge) area occupied by the Shire but not necessarily inhabited?

[edit] Shopping section

this small section is it necessary, and is the dispoable incomes the reason for national retail stores or would the fact that its a major regional centre with sufficient population? is this really relivant to an encyclopedic article? Gnangarra 10:50, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

It dosnt need it but you need spellcheck :) SatuSuro 11:55, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

The section cut from this article

[edit] Shopping

Kalgoorlie thrives with its wealthy mining industry which attracts national retail chains and companies to the city, mainly due to its high disposable income.

[edit] cut "Kalgoorlie is also the biggest constituency in the whole world."

I removed this Kalgoorlie is also the biggest constituency in the whole world. from the lead. The lead should only be a summary of facts within the article. This isnt mentioned anywhere with in the article and it needs a reference source.

The Italian parliament has a recognisably larger constituency region. It isnt the largest by registered voters many Australian electorates higher numbers. Please dont add these kinds of claims to the article they are easy targets as disputable facts as shown. Gnangarra 05:57, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Dont you think Kalgoorlie is the biggest electoral constituency in the world in terms of land area? Could you pl. answer this ? Nithya1974 12:12, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

Firstly what I think is irrelevant as that would violate original research guidelines as I cant be used a verifiable reference. As previously state The Italian Parliament has 2 seats for South East Asian and Oceania region which encompasses the Kalgoorlie electoral region so that is larger. Federal Senate seats in Western Australia cover larger areas than Kalgoorlie. The question of size comes down to methodology used in measuring, a single line statement without reference in the lead which isnt supported within the article shouldnt be there. Your welcome to include it within the article supported by verifiable sources (see WP:Cite for whats needed) please also include something on the methodology used to measure the claim. Gnangarra 14:47, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

Closer to home Division of Kalgoorlie is 2,295,354 sq km thats more the 95,000 sq km. Gnangarra

[edit] rating base

I rated this based on the following criteria

  • start because its currently more a tourist guide than an article, offers very little useful information to someone researching the city.
  • mid one level down from the Perth article

[edit] Cut - Business & franchises, Nightlife

The sections only needed to have phones numbers added and we'd have an article to rival any publication the local Tourist bureau could provide. Please remember this is meant to be an encyclopedia, WP:NOT is good starting point before reinstating any of the information. Gnangarra 07:55, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
