Kalu (woreda)

Kalu is one of the 105 woredas in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Debub Wollo Zone, Kalu is bordered on the on the west by Dessie Zuria, on the north by Were Babu, and on the south and east by the Oromia Zone. Towns and cities in Kalu include Ancharo, Degaga and Harbu.

Based on figures published by the Central Statistical Agency in 2005, this woreda has an estimated total population of 233,554, of whom 117,566 were males and 115,988 were females; 17,229 or 7.38% of its population are urban dwellers, which is less than the Zone average of 12.4%. With an estimated area of 1,152.59 square kilometers, Kalu has an estimated population density of 202.6 people per square kilometer, which is greater than the Zone average of 173.56.[1]
