Kallara is a small town in the Kottayam district in Kerala, India. Nearby villages also include Kaipuzha, Athirampuzha, Neendoor, Kurumulloor, Manjoor, and Vechoor. Kottayam is located 10 km south.

[edit] Climate and Geography
Kallara has similar tropical climate as the rest of the state of Kerala. The average temperature on the warmest monthes is about 33 °C and for colder monthes is 22 °C. The humidity is very high and can rise to about 90% during the monsoon seasons. During December, January and February winter temperature comes falls to around 15 °C. March, April and May, the summer monthes the temperature can rise to about 36 °C.
The yearly total rainfall varies from 2500 mm and 1500 mm. Kallara is affected by the rainy seasons. The south-west monsoon which extends from June to August and the north-east monsoon which extends from October to November. Roads can be flooded at times from the heavy downpours. The town is indented with numerous creeks and lakes. and is covered with jungles, rich in biodiversity.

The economy of Kallara is very dependent on latex. The rubber industry is once of the most important industries in Kallara. In addition to the rubber industry, other industries are also now growing rapidly including gold and textile retailing, seafood and spices, health services, banking, and the fishing industry are among some of them. The town's economy has an emphasis on the service sector. Information technology is also becoming more essential. As the Government of Kerala is promoting the construction of Infoparks. Kallara is very rapidly industrialising because of its growth in these industries.
Tourism is also another growing industry. The vast backwaters of Kerala are one of the most visited areas. Linked to the vast chain of rivers in Kerala. Traditional cargo boats called kettuvallams are modified into cruise boats and house boats often roam the backwaters giving tourists a view of Kallara's scenic beauty. In addition, there are many tours that take vistors into Kallara's forests, jungles and beaches. There are also several hotels and spas that can be found that allow guests to experince herbal remedies of Kallara.

There are many people belonging to almost every religion, particularly Christianity. Followed by Jews and a small number of Hindus. Kallara is one of the few places where Hinduism has smaller followers in India to both Christianity and Judaism. Religious tolernce is practiced throughout Kallara. The majority of residents are Malayalis. Most are related are related to the Knanaya people or Cochin Jews.
Most of the people speak their native tongue, Malayalam, the official language of Kerala. Other languages such as Hindi, Tamil and English are all widely understood in Kallara but, rarely spoken throughout the town. Hebrew is known to the Jewish population.
The literacy rate of Kallara is remarkable 100% and life expectancy is 76 years. Kerala's female-to-male ratio is at 1.081. Kallara has gone under the demographic transition characteristic of such developed nations such as the United Kingdom, United States and Japan. Education of Kallara are among the best in all of India.

Kallara has a very large variety of animals and plants. Many medicinal plant can be found all throughout Kallara. Tropical wet evergreen and semi-evergreen forests make up much of the plants that grow in Kallara. Many trees such as the anjili, rosewood, and caussia grow all throughout Kallara. Abundant flora such as bamboo, aromatic vetiver grass, black pepper, cardamom, calamus rattan palm and the lotus can be seen all over Kallara.
Kallara has all sorts of animals that are unique in the environment. The Indian Elephant, Leopard and Bengal Tiger are some of the mammals commonly found expessially in the deep tropical wet evergreen forests. Sometimes the very rare Liger can also be found. Reptiles such as king cobra, viper, python, and the crocodile also roam through Kallara. Birds include the Peafowl, the Great Hornbill, Indian Grey Hornbill, and Indian Cormorant.
Kallara has many conservation areas all through the town. Much of these are the backwaters and jungles. Rainforests, deciduous and evergreen forests make much up these jungles.
