Kaldbaksbotnur

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kaldbaksbotnur is a village on the island of Streymoy in the Faroe Islands.

Kaldbaksbotnur is located in the bottom of Kaldbaksfjordur on the east coast of Streymoy. The village consists of only one farm. Kaldbaksbotnur and Kaldbak were connected to the road network in 1980 when the road to Torshavn opened. The tunnel from Kaldbaksbotnur to Signabour is now the main thoroughfare from Torshavn to the villages up north. That tunnel was opened in 1992. In the mountains above Kaldbaksbotnur is a valley called ‘Mjorkadalur’ which means ‘Foggy Valley’. The Danish Navy has a base there and, on the top of the high mountains, NATO has some huge radar domes.
