Historical consensus is that it existed in the time of Mughals and even before them. There are few historical buildings and ruins in and around. In the time of Sher Shah Suri (Urdu: شیر شاه سورى) a road was built to link the town to Gujranwala and Alipur Chattha and the cities beyond them and it still exists. It has a history of more than hundred years, and being the centre of the cultivated lands, the town was famous for its "Mandi" (market) for cash crops. The market was mainly handled by the Hindus and Sikhs but more recently is being run by Muslims following the establishment of Pakistan. The nearby villages are also historically important.
