KAL-Online (칼온라인, kal is Korean for "sword") is a fantasy MMORPG from Inixsoft. Originally from South Korea, KAL-Online is currently available in Korean, English and Chinese for free.

[edit] Quests

Like many MMORPGs, NPCs often provide a player with quests. These quests are not necessary to proceed in the game, but completion gives the player some sort of reward, such as experience or currency. They are divided into three categories:

[edit] Tasks

Tasks usually consist of the easiest or shortest of the quests. They typically involve killing enemies and collecting a certain item they drop. The basic rewards for completing a task are experience points, skill points (used to gain special abilities for your character), and items.

Events are typically harder than tasks and take longer to complete, but they offer a bigger reward to the player. Currently there are four events which must be completed in order. Completing the fourth task ("Entering the Government Service!") allows the player to access the more advanced jobs.

Missions are considered the hardest of the quests, and are designed to be completed by groups of players. Missions have not been implemented in the game yet.

[edit] Ancient Animals and Transformation

After reaching level 15, players are able to do a quest where as a reward they are given an ancient animal to take care of; commonly known as an 'egg'. Players raise the ancient animals from eggs to adulthood by killing monsters above yellow, or just sitting around with it equipped. The item will (when equipped) grant bonuses to the character's statistics. How much and of which stats are added is dependent on the type and level of the animal. When the egg reaches levels 11, 21, and 31, it will gain the ability to transform the player into a young, adult, or ancient animal, respectively. When this transformation is used the character's physical form changes, along with statistical increases and the ability to use special moves, at the cost of "Rage", a bar which is filled by attacking enemies.

  • Ancient Bird (Grants Intelligence, Agility, and Health). Commonly associated with Mages.
  • Ancient Tiger (Grants Strength, Health, and Agility). Commonly associated with Knights.
  • Ancient Panther (Grants Agility, Strength, and Health). Commonly associated with Archers

[edit] Monsters

The monsters in Kal-Online are mostly demons of different sizes and levels, that work under Ban-Go. Aside from demons, there are some humanoid and insect based creatures. Unlike many other MMORPGs, players usually fight monsters under level 60 by themselves, without the aid of a group or party. The monsters are divided into four categories by most players: level 1-29, 30-59, 60-90 and the bosses.
