[edit] Summary

One artistic rendition of the Kajira "kef" symbol (or "staff and fronds") of John Norman's fictional "Gor", based on the following descriptions in Norman's series of Gor books:

  • Book 11 (chapter 3) - "a stem with floral, cursive loops"
  • Book 14 (chapter 4) - "a straight line, rather severe" and "adjacent to it, to its right, two fronds, curled and graceful"; "the design also bears a remote resemblance to the English letter 'K'."
  • Book 22 (chapter 5) - "a vertical bar, a rather strict one, with two curling, frond-like extensions, rather near its base"
  • Book 13 (chapter 1) - "a staff" (of "uncompromising severity") with "two, upturned, frond-like curls, joined where they touch the staff on its right"; "bears a distant resemblance to the printed letter 'K' in several of the Western alphabets of Earth"; is "more floral" with "extended, upturned, frond-like curls", than a "common cursive [letter] Kef"
  • Book 14 (chapter 8) - painted in red when used as a separate symbol
  • Book 11 (chapters 3, 11, and 26), book 13 (chapter 1), book 19 (chapter 3) - height is about three times width. (Note: In the image here, the symbol is shown as only about 2 1/2 times higher than it is wide. Vector outline versions of this symbol with both 1:2½ and 1:3 aspect ratios can be found here: [1])
