Kagoshima District, Kagoshima

Kagoshima (鹿児島郡; -gun) is a district located in Kagoshima, Japan.
As of 2004, the district has an estimated population of 1,040 and a density of 7.84 persons per km². The total area is 132.71 km².
The district has two villages.

- October 1, 1950-The villages of Higashisakurajima and Ishiki were merged into the city of Kagoshima.
- October 1, 1958-The town of Taniyama gained city status.
- November 1, 1972-The village of Yoshida gained town status.
- April 1, 1973-The district acquired the villages of Mishima and Toshima from Oshima District.
- May 1, 1973-The village of Nishisakurajima gained town status and became the town of Sakurajima.
- November 1, 2004-The towns of Yoshida and Sakurajima were merged into the expanded city of Kagoshima.
