Kaczyce (Silesian Voivodeship)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kaczyce is a village in Cieszyn County, Silesian Voivodeship, southern Poland, on the border with the Czech Republic. Population: 3,008 (2004 est.). It is a part of gmina of Zebrzydowice and lies on the Olza River.

Village was established in the 14th century, probably by Włodzimierz Kacz. Since 1770 it was owned subsequently by Spens family, baron Beess and since the middle of the 19th century by count Larisch. There is a wooden church from 1620 in the village, relocated here from Ruptawa near Jastrzębie Zdrój. There is a coal mine Morcinek (named after writer Gustaw Morcinek) in the village. It was closed in 1997 after short activity.
