socket looks like a funny face that tells little children "be my friend and touch me!". --Abdull 15:39, 23 July 2005 (UTC)
Yes it does :) Fortunately, we have circuit breakers everywhere and many sockets need pressure applied to both holes before any of them will open so they are quite safe for children.
The picture is not very representative of the plugs and sockets we use here in Denmark. We usually don't earth/ground our electrical equipment, perhaps because circuit breakers have been mandated by law for decades.
Most plugs and sockets use only two prongs. If there is a third prong (for earth/ground) it is slightly shorter than the other two.
The plug on the left is for computer equipment (the two longer prongs are not round).
The socket on the right is very unusual, in fact I've never seen one that looked quite like that. It is probably meant for damp/wet rooms (say for washing machines) or for outdoor use.
Many of our sockets have three holes arranged just like this socket but are only ever used with two-pronged plugs.
There are other plugs and sockets for three-phased AC. --Peter Lund, DK, September 2006.
