K3 (band)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

K3 are a three piece pop group from Belgium named after members Karen, Kristel, and Kathleen's initials. So far they released eight full-length CDs stuffed with positive, joyful and easy singalongs. Instant album top 10 entries (in both Belgium and the Netherlands) guaranteed.

Predominantly singing in Dutch K3 unintentionally reached a youthful fanbase, but grown-ups old enough to have been the groups classmates love them too. Even Robbie Williams gave them the thumbs up when he met them on a Dutch talkshow in 2005.

They had their first big hit with Heyah mama, written for the Flemish/Belgian heat of the 1999 Eurovision Song Contest.

Their 2002 hit Teleromeo was also recorded in French, English, and German.

K3 are managed by homegrown television studio Studio 100, explaining their mass exposure on Belgian and Dutch children's programmes. They also made a feature-length movie (K3 en de Verwende IJsprinses) that sees them melting a spoilt princess' frozen heart.

Proof that there is life outside K3, Karen plays a PE teacher in Anubis, a new children's soap made for the Dutch Nickolodeon channel.

The girls are currently touring the Netherlands with their Three Piglets (De Drie Biggetjes) musical, which was already a success in their home country.
