K'mpec (portrayed by Charles Cooper in the TV series and by Blake Lindsley in the game Star Trek: Klingon Academy) is a chancellor of the Klingon Empire in the fictional Star Trek universe, appearing in Star Trek: The Next Generation's "Sins of the Father" and "Reunion".

In 2292, K'mpec graduated from the Klingon Defense Forces Elite Command Academy, being the first student in the class of 2292 to understand the extent of the Federation's power as a strategic adversary, and being the one to suggest a clever simulation tactic to bring down a massive Federation space station without sufficient ships available for a direct assault. In the final battle of the ensuing civil war, he was instrumental to ultimate victory.

The year K'mpec became chancellor is unknown. However, upon his death, Captain Jean-Luc Picard notes that K'mpec had served as chancellor longer than anyone else in history.^[1] K'mpec had also known and served with Mogh, father of Worf and Kurn.^[2]

By 2365, the Klingon High Council found new evidence about who had betrayed those living on Khitomer to the Romulans. The evidence pointed to Ja'rod, father of Duras. Because the House of Duras was very powerful, the Council thought that Ja'rod's treason would cause civil war; K'mpec approves a plan to have Mogh charged with the crime instead. What K'mpec and the council did not expect was Worf's desire to challenge the charges. When the USS Enterprise-D's crew finds out what had occurred, Worf and Picard confront K'mpec and Duras. To prevent civil war, Worf offers to accept discommendation from the High Council, a move that K'mpec approves of.^[2]

In 2366, K'mpec finds that he has been slowly and irrecoverably poisoned. He believes he has been poisoned by either Gowron or Duras, both of whom seek to succeed K'mpec. Because he cannot depend on any other Klingon to be unbiased, K'mpec calls upon Picard to arbitrate the power struggle that occurs after his death.^[1]
