1 Peter Aerts was injured after his fight with Jerome Le Banner and could not continue. Le Banner was unable to take Aerts' place and first reserve fighter, Glaube Feitosa was allowed to advance to the next round.

- This would be the first of two WGP victories for Semmy Schilt.
- Schilt is the first karate practioner to win the WGP since Andy Hug did it in 1996
- It took Schilt 11:56 to win all three of his matches. This would be the second quickest amount of time any WGP winner has taken to win a WGP. As of 2006 the quickest time it took to win the WGP is held by Peter "Mr. K-1" Aerts (6:43)
- The three matches won by Schilt is the start of a six fight undefeated streak during the WGP which as of 2006 is still active. Schilt holds the second longest win streak, as of 2006 both Ernesto "Mr. Perfect" Hoost and Remy "Flying Gentleman" Bonjasky are tied with 7 fights.
