  • This would mark the third K-1 WGP win for Peter "Mr. K-1" Aerts. As of 2006 he has won the second most WGPs next to eternal rival Ernesto "Mr. Perfect" Hoost (who has won four).
  • As of 2006 Peter Aerts won the '98 WGP in the fastest time in K-1 history (6 minutes and 43 seconds)
  • On his way to winning the '98 WGP Peter Aerts knocked out all three of his opponents. As of 2006 only one other person has won by knocking out all three of his opponents former teammate of Peter Aerts and the very first WGP champion Branko Cikatic.
