The DeGarmo coefficient is a measure of stupidity. It is inspired by Raymond Chandler's novel The Lady in the Lake, where Philip Marlowe delivers one of the greatest put-downs of all time to Detective Lieutenant DeGarmo:
You are a stupid man, Degarmo. Everything you do is stupid, and done in a stupid way.
A DeGarmo coefficient of 1 indicates total abject stupidity. Examples of a unity DeGarmo coefficient might include creating an article on the latest Colbert-inspired idiocy or starting a deletion review of Encyclopaedia Dramatica.
