[edit] Life

When not touring with his band, Justin resides in San Marcos, Texas with his wife Lisa. Justin is a recovering drug addict and alcoholic and has battled depression through most of his life.[1][2] While running the bases at a minor league baseball game, he broke his leg and required surgery, which resulted in the postponement of several concert dates.[3]

[edit] Music career

Growing up, he listened to hip-hop, rock, country, dance and artists such as Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, the Smiths and Pink Floyd[4]. His first musical memory was Roy Orbison's ballad, "Crying".[5]He played in the band The Last Wish at the age of 13 until 1995[6] and uses the moniker 5591 when performing solo.[7]

His singing voice and performance style have been compared to Peter Gabriel, Eddie Vedder and Ed Kowalczyk. He has written over 500 songs and counts among his influences: Michael Stipe, The Cure, The Smiths, The Pixies, Peter Gabriel, Idaho, Blue Miller, George Winston, Jean Michel Basquiat and U2.
