Just in Time (Code Lyoko episode)

"Just in Time" is the thirteenth episode of the French animated television series Code Lyoko. It premiered in France on November 26, 2003 and in the United States on May 5, 2004.

Taking a different approach to his research, Jeremie materializes a single hair of Aelita's. Unfortunately, the follow-up test goes awry, and Jeremie has to find out why. Meanwhile, different parts of the school begin to crumble apart. Jeremie learns that his first test damaged Aelita's program, and she'll be deleted if she tries to deactivate a tower. On top of that, they learn that XANA is responsible for the damage being caused to the school, which continues to get worse. Jeremie has to fix the damage he caused in time to save Odd, who ends up trapped in the school with Milly and Tamiya.

At the start, Jeremie says that the Interface Transfer is activated, the Virtual Memory is activated also, and more, including the Scanners are ready. He then says that this time it will work, and asks if Aelita is ready. She says yes, and then Jeremie activates the materialization program. In his screen, Aelita's wireframe loses color around her head, and a (+) icon appears, and so the materialization starts to work. Visibly excited, Jeremie then goes to the Scanner Room to see. The Scanner opens and then the view turns to the others.
Ulrich and Yumi are practicing Pencak Silat while Odd is playing fetch with Kiwi in the Park. Yumi then asks Odd if he's seen Jeremie this morning. Odd thinks he spent all night in the laboratory working on something very important. All three then say, "Aelita". Yumi then kicks Ulrich, Knocking him over on his back. Ulrich says that there was a time-out (Yumi herself had called it). Jeremie runs as fast as he can to the others and lets them guess what he did. Odd answers that it had something to do with materializing Aelita. Jeremie then informs all three that he "finally did it". He shows them the test tube. Ulrich then says, "You materialized a test tube?" Jeremie scoffs at this answer and then tells them to look inside. Odd then points out that he only materialized one hair. Jeremie says that it is a hair of Aelita's. Jeremie blushes at the start of saying Aelita. Yumi asks how he managed that. They then head to the Factory. Jeremie goes on a spiel that is a bit too long for the gang, but he gives the vital information that the hair contains Aelita's entire genetic/computer code. Jeremie then asks if it was simple enough and if they follow. Odd says no, and then Jeremie asks if it was "No, it's not simple enough, or no, you don't follow?". Odd says, "No means we take your word for it." Aelita on the screen then puts her hand on her face and giggles. Jeremie says that it is no problem and that it will become clear when Aelita is there in flesh and blood. Ulrich asks if Jeremie will materialize her at that exact moment in time. Jeremie says that the hair was just a test before he does the big leap. Yumi says, "Listen... Making a hair appear is one thing, but materializing Aelita is not the same!" Jeremie then says that if they want to spend their whole life fighting XANA, and that when Aelita is finally materialized, then can deactivate XANA once and for all. He then reactivates the program, but the window displays (!) icon, signifying the program does not work. Jeremie says that he planned everything so perfectly. Ulrich says that he will be ready in a few days and that he is almost there. Odd then checks his digital watch, surprised, and says, "Hey, come on, you guys, if WE don't materialize in the classroom, WE'RE not going to last a few days!"
After class, in lunch break, Jeremie wonders what happened with the program. Yumi asks if the hair contained the entire genetic code gives enough for the perameters for materialization, what would have been possibly wrong in the first place? Odd jokes that he is only a "hair" away. Ulrich then adds a joke, saying that with all the hairs Kiwi sheds, Jeremie could practically make him another Kiwi. Sissi then comes up and says she'll keep quiet about Kiwi if Ulrich will be nicer to her. Yumi then threatens her, squeezing her juice glass lightly, breaking it anyway, and then giving her a cut. In the Infirmary, Yolande Perraudin puts a bandage on Yumi, and says the cut is not very deep. Yumi says she only barely squeezed the glass.
In Jeremie's Room, he says it was a disaster as he checked Aelita. It turns out that Aelita's program is all full of bugs. He says that in the hair's materialization, he hit a button he shouldn't have pressed, and damaged the Annex program, and the program linking Aelita to the Towers is wrecked, and so if she enters the Code LYOKO into the tower, she'll be reformatted and deleted. Aelita says that a program can be de-bugged, and that they can do it together. Jeremie then asks the three to make up excuses for the teachers as to why he won't be in school.
Ulrich and Odd are walking through the halls and hear Kiwi barking, Odd goes inside and tries to get him to be quiet, and the window breaks. Jim comes and sees what happened, when he leaves he says "Oh, and Ulrich, clean your bed. You have hair on your bed." Odd takes Kiwi to Jeremie's room. While Jeremie is working on the program Kiwi chews on his slipper, so he decides to go to the Factory.
In the Factory, Jeremie is working on the bugs, and Aelita feels pulsations and tells Jeremie that XANA has activated a Tower. At Kadic, the building starts rumbling and collapsing. Jeremie calls Odd and Ulrich to tell them that XANA has activated a Tower. Odd goes inside to get Kiwi. As he walks down one of the halls towards a stairwell, he hears noises behind a door. When he investigates Odd finds Milly and Tamiya working on schoolwork while listening to their CD players. Because of the music, they didn't here the rumblings. Milly demands that Odd leave, but the wildcard student sets about escorting the girls to safety. When they enter the hallway they find a crucial section of the floor partially caved in, forming a kind of incline. Odd calls Jeremie to let him know that he is trapped in the dormitories with Milly and Tamiya (who at this point are in tears) and won't be able to make it to Lyoko. A sudden tremor causes Odd to fall and lose his cell phone, which falls to the lower floor. Ulrich goes to the Factory and calls Yumi.
Yumi runs from her house to the school. At an intersection of two streets Yumi notices a small group of dogs barking and howling at the air. The streetlights suddenly start flickering and a small fissure opens in the street. Yumi picks up the pace and arrives at Kadic where asks Sissi what is going on. Sissi is crying and says "Odd....he is stuck in there with Milly and Tamiya." Yumi gets mad, then she goes to the Factory and Ulrich and Yumi get transferred, scanned and virtualized.
In Lyoko Ulrich and Yumi are attacked by four Bloks. Ulrich destroys 1 with his katana and Yumi destroys the other 3 with her metallic boomerang fan.
Back at Kadic, the buildings continue to collapse. An outside view shows that the Dormitory Building has split in half and the right half (the area where Odd, Milly and Tamiya are) is slowly sinking into the ground with each tremor. There is a hole in the floor and Odd tells Milly and Tamiya that they will have to slide down and jump to the bottom where they will be safer. Tamiya protests, saying "it's at least a 10-meter drop!" In order to demonstrate the lack of danger and rally the two girls, Odd jumps and makes it. He tells Tamiya to jump, she is scared and lets go. Odd catches her. Milly doesn't come down, as she is paralyzed with fear and crying. When another tremor hits and the damaged part of the Dormitory Building begins sinking Milly is shaken loose and falls through the aperture. Odd catches her. The three head for the nearest stairwell, but their hopes of escape are crushed when they find it collapsed.
In Lyoko Krabes have attacked the gang. Yumi destroys the last Krabe and Aelita runs for the Tower.
At the school, an unusually strong tremor hits and damaged portion of the building is about to come down. Odd brings the two frightened grils into an embrace (not as a sign of affection, but in order to protect them from falling debris with his body). Jeremie tells Aelita that he fixed the program, but his hopes are dashed when it still doesn't work properly. Aelita tells Jeremie that they have to deactivate the Tower or all municipal infrastructure and buildings will be destroyed by the earthquakes. Aelita makes the fateful move of activating the Tower interface and entering the Code LYOKO with her hand imprint. Odd is relieved to see the cataclysm stop. Jeremie in a sad voice says "Return to the past now...”
Consequential to the Return Trip headed towards the Past, the gang is huddled in a fashion in which they are surrounding Jeremie in the factory's Lab, bemoaning the loss of Aelita. Jeremie says that if he just devirtualized Aelita instead of materializing the hair none of this would have happened. Yumi immediately exclaims, "The hair! Jeremie didn't you said the hair contained all of Aelita's genetic code?" Jeremie says yes then the genius of Yumi's idea hits him. Jeremie carefully positions the precious test tube in the Scanner. He initiates Aelita's virtualization proces, and he accomplishes the task of bringing Aelita back to existance. Aelita pops up onscreen and inquires, "Jeremie, why is there water on your face?" After asking if she missed something, an overjoyed Jeremie says "We'll tell you the whole story later..." The episode ends on that.
