Hi, How is everything? Was my advocacy sufficient for the L Cook article? --CyclePat 03:49, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

Hello CyclePat. I want to thank you for your attention to the article and trying to calm the waters. She went onto the article and deleted David L Cook's discography as well as filmography. I have ggogled and found many references to several of the albums and recordings that were included on the references. I am just so tired of that one editor and I am ready to just thorw up my hands. I know that if I restore the discography and filmography, she will just deleted it again. It just makes me so mad. Maybe she will find another article to make her pet project so she will eave us alone? Thank you so much and if you come up with any ides, please let me know.. Junebug52 3:06, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] David L. Cook

Thank you for your comments on the editing disagreements over this article. I have responded to you on my own talk page so that all interested parties may see my response. Again, thanks for your time. --Satori Son 14:14, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

  • Thank you again, this time for your kind words regarding my edits to the article. I am more than happy to help out, and your encouragement is greatly appreciated. I hope, also, that you do not have ill feelings toward wikipediatrix concerning your disagreements over there. While her editing style might be considered aggressive by some, I truly believe she has the best interests of the project at heart, and her zeal to ensure articles are properly sourced and verified is appreciated my many. Quite frequently, such "pig wrestling" matches over articles can be discouraging to new editors, but I'm glad to see that you are still around. All the best, Satori Son 17:47, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thank you!

Hey Junebug52! I just saw your response on the Music of South Florida talk page, and I really appreciate your support and helpful advice. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to put in the time necessary to expand the article and with only five days to do so once Wikipediatrix put in the deletion request - well, it's a lost cause for now. She could have given me more time - say a couple of weeks, time I asked her for before she put in the AfD. Her repeated deletions and edit war without discussion were just plain rude, and goes well against Wikietiquette. But she knew the right trix to get her way... :) Anyway, I've moved the material I thought was interesting to other articles for now. We'll see what happens next. Thanks again, and let me know if you ever need help with anything - or anybody... :) Dreadlocke 16:05, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

The article is growing! Hopefully it will be enough to at least delay deletion for now! Dreadlocke 00:09, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] your post on my talk page re David Cook

That is all very nice, but you are yet to provide any source for this information. As I have previously explained, any wikipedia editor can delete unsourced information. Again, verifiability is key. Captaintruth 20:19, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

  • This is fine, but can you find any information that disproves he did not have a viable part of this moevement? David's history is steeped in Ft. Lauderdale history. This information was not unsourced either. [1] I believe it mentions his home place and the place where he recorded his first solo album after his families retirement. Junebug52 3:23, 8 Novemeber 2006 (UTC)
    • I do not need to disprove anything. Your source shows only that he lived in Broward in the early 80s (and doesnt make clear for how long) and that he recorded one album in sunrise. do you really think that every artist who lived in south florida for some period of time and recorded an almub here should be included in this section? That would probably result in literally hundreds of names being included and would be unhelpful. if you wish to assert a more substantial connection, you need to provide a source. Captaintruth 20:28, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
  • I do not think for one minute that this artist needs to be included in with the hundreds of artists that have not reached notablity in a specific field. This artist did in fact come from the Broward county area and the time he spent there is not even a point here. The fact remains he was a part of that areas upcoming. Both he and Jimmy Buffett were both born in Pascagoula, MS. Does that mean that because they were born there but did not stay that they are not notables from that area? I think not! The projects and time David spent in Florida however long or short was a viable representation and contribution to the building of his genre as well as an important time in his career. Junebug52 3:35, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

    • You will find that numerous, numerous notable musicians have homes in So Fla and have recorded one or mor albums here. We cant include them all. What you say about Cook may be true but most lacks a source. Regardless of where Jimmy Buffett was born, there is plenty of evidence that he has been part of the south florida music scene (much of it provided on his wikipedia article). [edit] David Cook in Music of South Florida

I don't see a reason why we can't add David to the article. Is there enough Christian Rock or Gospel in South Florida to create a heading for it? Dreadlocke 15:33, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

Dreadlocke, thanks for your input. I have tried to add David to this article and I keep running into a block with Captaintruth. There is info out there that shows David grew up in that area and was part of the music scene. He however feels that since the infor does not include how long David was in Florida, he should not be included becasue he says that he only recorded an album there and lived there during the 80's. My arguement with that is, that just as Jimmy Buffett and David L Cook were both born in Pascagoula, MS, and moved away at early ages, does that discount them as both being notable people from that area? Of course not! Nor should it knock David out for being a contributor to the music contributions of South Florida? David was raised in that area and was one of the first mainstream Christian artists to make a splash in the field of Contemporary Christian music. I just don't like an editor taking so much charge and that is why I gave my warning after changing my deletion vote. Thank you so much. Junebug52 10:51, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

Yes, I saw that unfortunate battle and I tried to assist.[2] I think the objection can be easily taken care of if we create a section on Christian Rock/Gospel music from the area. I don't want to put a damper on either your or Captaintruth's expansion efforts, so if we can find a way that fits in with both your views - that would be the Wikipedia way.  :) What are your thoughts on creating a CR/Gospel section? Dreadlocke 04:41, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

I have no problems with that. The bottom line is going to be that Captaintruth is asking for larger sources that just are not going to be attainable. These celebrities do not promote where they live nor do they go into great depth about things of the past since their money and career has to be moving in a forward direction. There are several Christian artist that come from that area and one of the best churches for music comes from that area. Coarl Ridge Presb church has had many notable people who have made their connection to the music industry. I think it would work and is certainly a valid part of the music that makes the area. It bothers me that he has taken such a stern and un needed direction with an artist that has great notability and is known from coming from that area. Those are my thoughts LOL Junebug52 11:49, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

Well, at least you can laugh about it! heh! I could be wrong, but I get the impression that Captaintruth's objection about including Cook is that it's going in the main introductory section where only the most notable and verifiable artists from the area should be. I don't think he would object to including Cook in a section on that type of music. If I'm wrong, then we can take it to another level because I don't agree with the assessment that there isn't enough verifiable information connecting David Cook to South Florida music. Plus, the article still needs a lot of expansion, and I think gospel/christian rock is a definite and necessary addition to it! Dreadlocke 05:02, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
Hey, we defeated Trixie, we can do anything...Dreadlocke 05:05, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

Shhhhhhh . she will hear you! LOL She actually will because she has flagged me and follows me through Wikipedia. I really don't mind but it gets frustrating at times. I don't even let her bother me anymore. Anyway, I think we could expand it for Christian music and the such. Just create the heading and I will come in tomorrow and start building the genre info. I did expand David's wikipage to include his childhood birthplace and where he grew up. I think that should also help us. Thanks for the support. Junebug52 12:11, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Christian country music

I went ahead and performed the merge. On that other page you asked about the 'prod' template looks like it was used correctly and someone will likely delete the article in a few days if there are not objections. If somebody does want the page kept then there is a more involved procedure at WP:AFD for working out a consensus on whether it is needed or not. --CBD 02:38, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Singing Echoes

I don't mind you putting cites on the page for The Singing Echoes but don't just go in and put up cite tags without making sure that the paragraphs are in good grammar. You were just throwing in cite tags and not making any adjustments to the paragraphs and you were kind of ruining the flow of the article. Also, the article really isn't long enough to warrant cite tags. T. White 07:22, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

Ok, its been a long night! I don't know what I was talking about with the flow and all that. I will work on getting citations for the page. Please excuse my ramblings! T. White 08:42, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
  • Terrill, thanks for your attention to the article. I appreciate the work you have done to cite the sources. I also see the e mail that you sent to the Singing Echoes. Be aware that we need to ask them if they have some factual proof of the items we need vierified. We cannot just have them confirm the facts, we have to see the facts posted somewhere notable that we can use as a valid source. Again, if I can be of any assistance to you, please let me know. Don't worry about the ramblings, I live my life the way LOL. Junebug52 10:41, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ed Bruce

I am aware to what you have done to my page on Ed Bruce. I do not understand what you're talking about though. I would recommend that you visit the website LP Discography.com. That is where I got my information from. Getting to the website is a little hard so I will give some directions:

  • Go to Google.com and type in LP Discography (not LP Discography.com but simply LP Discography)
  • Click on the first entry.
  • When you enter the website it will say the website moved to LP Discography.com and click where it says LP Discography.com.
  • After that you are at the website and the Country Music artists are listed on the side of the page in alphabetical order by last name.

This is where I found most of my information. This might help you find what you're looking for. Thanks! (LovePatsyCline 20:54, 20 November 2006 (UTC))

Ok, if I can find some time I will visit the site and see if I can help out a little on sourcing this article. Junebug52 21:49, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] re:Gary S. Paxton

Hi there, the reason I removed those particular categories is because those pertain to songs and not people. For example, if you click the Billboard number-ones category you come to a huge list of songs and there in the middle of it is an individual's name, which doesn't mesh. Perhaps there are alternative categories he can be placed in? - eo 16:30, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

Not sure, and I had to go in and fix this article because it was heading south real quick. But I wikified it. One can look at the article as a whole and see the reference to the song Alley Oop in the body of the article as well as Record label info. So technically it could still fall within those catagories. I do see what you are talking about in reference to the songs alone. If you have any suggestions, I certainly am open to them. I just do not want to allow other editors to get in and hack what I tried so hard to work with. It was a mess before. I am also waiting for an admin to merge NewPax article with the GAry article. I moved the info because I felt it better suited the Gary article than an article that needs to stand on its own. What would be your input? Thanks Junebug52 16:35, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

I certainly don't wanna step on your toes, I just saw categories there that didn't seem to match. For example, if you look at the Category for Billboard number-one singles, you'll see that "Alley-Oop" is aleady there. And if I'm not mistaken the other one I removed was for record labels? I figured people go in categories reserved for people, such as "Category:Living people" and the "birth"/"death" ones and categories pertaining to places of birth and/or types of musicians, etc. - eo 16:40, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
No,No,No you are not stepping on my toes. I appreciate your input! I am talking about other editors that do not know what they are doing. I have worked in the industry for over 30 years now and I can assure you that people can get their facts distorted given the ability of a little freedom. LOL Anyway, If you know of better catogories that we can include him in, I am open to that. Just go ahead and put them on the page. Also, please flag this page or put it on your watch list and if you see someone putting stuff that is not verifiable or lends to the article in a positive way, please help me by weeding it out. Thanks for your help Junebug52 16:46, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
OK, I made some minor formatting corrections to the article and I also found a whole bunch of categories that better suit him. I'm sure there are plenty more, if you just click around. Just an FYI, be sure to add "|Paxton, Gary S." to the end of the category name so that he is properly alphabetized in the list (same goes for other individuals). If you can find out his birth year, another good category to add is "19xx births". Hope that helps. - eo 17:00, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] NewPax Records

Hello! Thanks for the message RE: the above. Sorry to go in all guns blazing, but don't you think it looks better as a seperate article? Many famous people have their own record labels and these all have their own entry on Wikipedia. I've seen many record label articles with far less info than NewPax, each with their own page on here. Lugnuts 15:21, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

The problem that we are going to run into here is that because the record label is now defucnt and Gary is living in Branson, MO and allowing his stuff to be handled by Gaither Publishing, we are going to run into an issue of citing. That was one of the reasons I moved it to start with. It was a mess. Another editor had created it and just left it because they did not cite it and could not find info to cite it with. If it is under Gary's page about biography then we are under different rules for articles on living people. If you can find sources that can enhance the article, I say lets go for it, but I did try to find reliable sources outside of Gary himself and they are very rare indeed. Tell me what you are thinking. Junebug52 15:25, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Preview

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. However, it is recommended that you use the preview button before you save; this helps you find any errors you have made, and prevents clogging up recent changes and the page history. Thanks again. --Geniac 16:54, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your input, I have only one problem. When editing, it does not show you the cat edits until you save. If I could figure out how to do it in preview I would be oh so happy to do so. Thanks for your comments. Junebug52 04:36, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Scroll all the way to the bottom of the preview page. Categories are there right below the "Templates used in this preview:" section. --Geniac 15:04, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Geniac, I am aware of this, however when you go to preview the cats, they will not let you look at them in a preview window. So you have to save them and then preview them. I do not know if you have ever encountered that before, but that is what it has been doing to me. I asked an admin about that in the past and they said the same thing. You would have to save and then preview. I think it is a bad flaw to the program personally. Junebug52 19:40, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
