Junior Achievement of Nigeria
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Junior Achievement of Nigeria (JA Nigeria) was established in 1999 to inspire and educate young people to understand and value the role of business in their lives and communities. This will be achieved by encouraging young people to stay in school and by helping Nigerian businesses, both indigenous and multinational, to form partnerships with schools in fostering an enterprise culture. JA Nigeria is a member of the JA WorldWide family.

Young conscientious business leaders leading a vibrant economy.
[edit] Mission
To inspire and educate young people to become conscientious business leaders. We will achieve this by implementing economic education programs that develop attitudes and skills necessary for personal success and social responsibility.
[edit] Goals
- Build a bridge between the classroom and the workplace
- Be recognized as the leader in the delivery of high quality supplementary economic education programs in Nigeria
- Contribute to the development of young Nigerian business leaders that can compete with their peers anywhere in the world
- Foster socially responsible attitudes and patriotic spirit in successful business leaders and companies operating in Nigeria
- Contribute towards the development of a positive attitude towards business in Nigerian Youth
- Contribute to the positive empowerment of disadvantaged young people living in large cities to help reduce urban poverty in Nigeria
JA Nigeria offers fifteen programmes for young people aged 5 - 25 years, which involve a unique partnership between business and education that teaches primary, secondary and tertiary level students, as well as selected members of the National Youth Service Corps, the risks and rewards of entrepreneurship. Programmes are underpinned by high quality course material funded by the business sector and provided to schools free of charge. The business community also provides business professionals who bring first-hand experience of the business world into the classroom as volunteers.
JA Nigeria teaches the next generation of business leaders a wide variety of lessons, including the importance of staying in school, what goes into running a business and how to trade with a partner in another country. JA Nigeria is concerned with teaching young people about the mechanics of business management, economics and the work ethic, directly from business people, with the net effect of seeding and developing a vibrant, conscientious Nigerian private sector that can compete successfully in the global economy, and youth that have positive attitudes towards business.
JA Nigeria's main program content is based on Junior Achievement International's programs, with changes made to fit the Nigerian curriculum and issues most relevant to Nigeria's ongoing business and economic development. The programs are aimed at Nigeria's youth in primary, secondary and tertiary educational institutions. The Primary School and Secondary School programs are taught as a complement to the existing school social sciences curriculum, with classes held on the school premises. These programs are taught by volunteering business professionals from the private sector. Due to identified needs and demand for programs for older students, JA Nigeria has developed special programs for university students and members of the National Youth Service Corps.
