Juninho

Juninho is a Portuguese diminutive name.
It is frequently used as a nickname for Brazilian footballers who have the word Júnior in their name. In this case it is often combined with an epithet, sometimes a demonym referring to their place of origin, to distinguish them from other players with the same nickname, as shown in several of the following examples:
- Juninho Fonseca (born 1958), real name Alcides Fonseca Júnior, defender, 1982 FIFA World Cup and Ponte Preta player
- Juninho Paulista (born 1973), real name Osvaldo Giroldo Júnior, midfielder, 2002 FIFA World Cup winner. The demonym Paulista means a native of São Paulo.
- Juninho Pernambucano (born 1975), real name Antônio Augusto Ribeiro Reis Júnior, attacking midfielder, Confederations Cup 2005 winner, 2006 FIFA World Cup player. The demonym Pernambucano indicates his origins in Pernambuco State
- Juninho Petrolina (born 1974), real name Hamilton Timbira Dias Santos Júnior, offensive midfielder played also in Portugal. Place of origin: Petrolina
