Junichi Kakizaki

Junichi Kakizaki (柿崎順一, born January 4, 1971) is an artist, sculptor , installation artist concentrating on horticulture and floral design. He was born in Nagano, Japan and grew up surrounded by plants and gardening. Starting in 1990 with a study of basic molding and botany, he then moved on to concentrate on floral art. His first solo exhibition was in 2003, the same year he won the Japanese national floral championship. As of 2006, he mainly works on stage decorations with many other artists and exhibits new work regularly both in Japan and internationally. Performances of special interest include "In The Absence of The Sunlight" (Stockholm, 2003) and "Rebel Installation in Melbourne" (National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne, 2004).

  • 1971 Born in Nagano, Japan.
  • 1987 Learned floral artistry from Muneyoshi Tsuchiya.
  • 1989 Moved to Tokyo. Then entered Yoyogi Seminer Formative Arts School.
  • 1990 Entered The Botanical College of Technological Horticulture, in the Horticultural sciences department. Took a specialist course in Floral Design. He became a student of Sadao Kasahara. Established a Floral design office, "Fleur de Noel", also did floral photography, etc.
  • 1992 Created the floral art exhibition "Flower and green for the town" at Yagihashi department store. This exhibition was done to commemorate 95 years since the establishment of the Yagihashi department store in Kumagaya City, Saitama Prefecture. Worked for Serendipity Design in Tokyo and dealt with the work of design in commercial films, television, and promotional videos. He built his work into a wide field of expertise.
  • 1993 Became an assistant of Fumihiko Muramatsu, an Interflora World Cup champion. Worked in Shizuoka City.
  • 1994 Returned to Nagano.
  • 1995 Took part in the Hase-dera art project in Nagano. Then took charge of the stage decorations of a concert of many artists, including Eiichi Arai, Shonosuke Okura, Lee Jeongmi, LEBUN KAMUY, HASBAATOR, UN-RYU, and the members of KODO.
  • 1998 Established a Junichi Kakizaki hana office.
  • 1999 Did the flower decorations for the butoh performance "Kazuo Ohno Butoh at Hasedera" by Kazuo Ohno and Yoshito Ohno. For the opening performance on the stage in Ohno, Kakizaki did the demonstrations.
  • 2000 Did the flower decorations of butoh performance "Kazuo Ohno Butoh at Hasedera 2000" by Kazuo Ohno and Yutaka Matsuzawa, who is a conceptual artist.
  • 2002 Created, in participation, a setting for the butoh performance "2 New Dance Pieces" by the Guren Dance Theater of Richard Hart, who is a butoh dancer from the USA. Formed unit FLORIDANCE in collaboration with Richard Hart in the same year; it performed "Floridance" many times, mainly in Nagano.
  • 2003 First time solo exhibition "connect". It opened at the grand ballroom of The Saihokukan in Nagano City. It created the masterpiece "the raid of the tulip star person", which had 300 visitors. Opened solo exhibition "In the Absence of Sunlight" at the Fylkingen gallery in Stockholm. At The Mizuno Art Museum in the same year, "Japanesque" Junichi Kakizaki + alpha in Nagano City. Created the other masterpiece "vestigial wave. cave's mouth" and "contrast" using bamboo and phalaenopsis.
  • 2004 "Rosanjin Kitaoji - turn eyes to the natural beauty" exhibition for Rosanjin's reception in the Okashorin gallery in Nagano City. Participated in the famous photographer Nobuyoshi Araki's "Hana-Jinsei" exhibition in the Kitano cultural center at The Kitano Art Museum, Nagano city. Kakizaki was entitled "the homage to Nobuyoshi Araki"; a flower made of 30 glass vases which Yukio Nakagawa created for the arrangement. Started the floral art project "Rebel Installation". It is a project that it will make it possible, through shifting and doing makeup, to astonish people all over the world, using a flower to represent the famous buildings and natural moldings of the earth. Did "Rebel Installation" in Melbourne City in Australia at the National Gallery of Victoria on Federation square, designed by Donald Bates and Lab Architecture Studio. It ran for 2 days as planned, involving people in many towns. The beauty stopped the feet of many people.
