Julien Paul Blitz

Julien Paul Blitz (May 21, 1885–1951), was a Belgian–American cellist, conductor, and teacher. He was the first music director of the Houston Symphony Orchestra.
Blitz was born in Ghent, Belgium, the son of Edouard E. Blitz and Mattie Louise Miller. He completed musical studies at the Ghent Conservatory, where he made his debut in 1904. He was engaged as a cellist in the Kursaal Orchestra in Ostend, Belgium. He subsequently came to the United States in 1913 to become the music director of the newly-formed symphony orchestra in Houston, Texas; he also directed activities of the Houston Treble Clef Club. Blitz's tenure in Houston lasted until 1916, at which time he became the music director of the San Antonio Symphony Orchestra (a predecessor of the current organization of the same name). In San Antonio Blitz was also the director of the Chaminade Choral Society of the Tuesday Musical Club.
Blitz died in 1951.
