[edit] Julie Banderas vs. Shirley Phelps Roper

In June 2006 Fox invited Christian lawyer Shirley Phelps-Roper, daughter of Westboro Baptist Church founder Fred Phelps, onto the show. Shirley was invited onto the show after a civil lawsuit was filed against the church for defamation after the church called dead soldiers homosexuals. The interview started off with both women being calm, cool, and collected but devolved into a full scale shouting match between the two. Ms. Banderas began the interview by asking Ms. Phelps-Roper why she was adding misery to grieving families. Ms. Phelps-Roper became upset when Ms. Banderas claimed that she was spreading lies on the internet. Both women began loudly arguing and throwing quotes of The Bible, with Ms. Banderas saying to Ms. Phelps-Roper "you are the devil . . . you're going to hell." Near the end of the interview, after exchanging bible quotes, Roper said 'You think gay pride bimbo!' to Banderas before Banderas retorted by asking why, if Phelps thinks that America is doomed, she continues to reside there and saying "you should not be proud to be an American . . . good-bye."[citation needed]
