Julia Zemiro is an Australian television presenter and comedian.

[edit] Early life

Julia Zemiro was born in 1967 in Aix-en Provence, France. Her father was an Algerian waiter and her Australian mother was from Queensland. In 1970 she moved to Australia at the age of two and a half. Julia attended Sydney Girls High School before studying for a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Sydney. She was accepted into the Victorian College of the Arts Drama School before completing her final year and she moved to Melbourne in 1992.

In 1993, she graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts and soon found work touring with the Bell Shakespeare Company for two years.

She has been featured in short films including The Extra (not the Jimeoin feature) and Muffled Love, winning the Tropfest Best Actress award twice in 1997 and 2000 respectively. She also co-wrote, performed and directed Backpackers (La Mama, 2000 Melbourne International Comedy Festival).

A long-time Theatresports veteran, Julia played at the Belvoir Theatre, Sydney for many years before her move to Melbourne. She is currently a performer with Impro Melbourne, starring in their current season of Theatresports and regularly appears in their Melbourne International Comedy Festival hit, "Late Nite Impro".

Julia's first appearance as a television presenter was as the host of World telly 2, which was an international co-production devised by now broadacaster / journalist Scott Watkins-Sully. She had previously appeared in the original World Telly as part of an improvised comedy group. The World Telly progeammes were broadcast by ABC Australia Television, the ABC's original but now defunct venture into international satelite broadcasting.

During Zemiro's time touring with the Bell Shakespeare Company, she also became a regular panellist and debater for Good News Week and as a writer/performer on Totally Full Frontal where she played over 30 characters during two seasons.

Since 2005, she has hosted RocKwiz on SBS, a pub-style music trivia program.

In 2006 she was a regular guest on Thank God You're Here, won Australia's Brainiest TV Star hosted by Sandra Sully, and hosted Song for the Socceroos, a nationwide search for a theme song to 'inspire the Socceroos to glory' [1] during the FIFA World Cup. Zemiro is also involved in several other productions, including the comedic Eurovision Song Contest tribute Eurobeat - in which for its three seasons she has had the lead role of the compere and fictional Bosnian celebrity Bronja. She appeared on The Wedge, a comedy, as various characters in 2006.

Zemiro has also appeared in several television commercials, most recently as a satiric French fashion expert called Fifi La Croix for Target's breast cancer campaign.

She also was a judge on Lifestyle FOOD's Great BBQ Challenge.

Julia can also be spotted in an episode of CNNNN - as the host of 'Animal Farm.'
