Julia Suits

Julia Halyburton Suits is a versatile illustrator who has worked as a portrait artist, caricaturist and cartoonist. Her artwork has appeared in The New Yorker and many other magazines and newspapers.

With a BFA in painting from Beloit College and an MFA in sculpture from Ohio State University, Suits worked as a certified medical illustrator and forensic sculptor. In 1985, she was the first person to complete a 3-D construction of an Egyptian mummy's head using CAT scan technology.

Since 1988, she has drawn editorial portraits for Creators Syndicate. Her client list includes Microsoft, Lee Troxler and Ink, Inc. In addition to contributing cartoons to The New Yorker, her work has appeared in the Charleston Post and Courier, Gainesville Sun, Insight, Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Washington Post Weekly and Washington Times.

The mother of three teenage sons, Suits is a prolific artist who has created more than 500 drawings for her nationally syndicated feature, Portraits for Print (aka Portraits by Suits), an extensive gallery of celebrities and newsmakers from Madeline Albright and Tonya Harding to John Travolta and John Updike.
