[edit] Baptism

He was baptized on 12 December 1999 in the Palace of Zarzuela, Barcelona. Hola! online magazine informs that the baptism was performed by Cardinal Antonio Maria Rouco Varela, Archbishop of Madrid. According to Spanish royal family tradition, the holy water used to baptize Juan was from the River Jordan. Juan's godparents include: his aunt the Infanta Elena and his uncle Mikel Urdangarín. He was named Juan after his great-grandfather the Count of Barcelona and his grandfather, the King of Spain; Valentín, after his father's great-grand-uncle, Saint Valentin of Berriochoa, or Berriotxoa, and Todos los Santos (English: All Saints) as it is customary among the Bourbons. The Spanish news ABC (www.abc.es) declares that he was also named Juan to honor his paternal grandfather, Juan Mariá Urdangarín. Sometimes the family, and even the media, call him "Juanito," in line with the common practice for Spanish boys to have the affectionate "ito" added to their names.

[edit] Titles

He bears the title of His Excellency Don Juan Valentín, etc. and Grandee of Spain" since he was born. All of the children of Infanta Cristina and Infanta Elena have the HE Don/Doña title, as befit the children of a Spanish duke. However, even if they do not have the title of Infante or Infanta, all of the grandchildren of King Juan Carlos are members of the Spanish royal house.
