Juan Manuel Mateo (born December 17, 1982 in Bani, Dominican Republic) is a Major League/Minor League baseball player with the Chicago Cubs organization. During the 2006 season, he was a right-handed starting pitcher with the AA-level West Tenn Diamond Jaxx until his call-up to the Cubs on August 1, 2006. On August 3, Mateo made his major league debut in a start in a game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He went 5 innings pitched and picked up his first career win.
On March 4th, 2007 he played 1 & 1/2 innings against the White Sox in a Cactus League exhibition matchup. He gave up two homeruns to Jermaine Dye and Rob Mackowiak before he was replaced with another pitcher.
