Juan Carlos Echeverry

Juan Carlos Echeverry (sometimes printed as Echeverri or Echeverry Bernal) is a Colombian operatic tenor. He was born on June 28, 1971 in Manizales, Colombia.

He began singing at the age of five in the children’s choir of his native city Manizales. Later he studied the piano at the University of the Andes, Colombia (Universidad de los Andes), in Bogotá then at the Musikhochschule in Mannheim, Germany, where he was also studying vocal technique. In 1997 he continues his vocal training at the Conservatory of Cologne (Hochschule für Musik Köln), a largest European music school, in the class of Professor Klesie Kelly. He receives his degree with honors in July 2000 and takes part in master classes of singers like Renata Scotto, Christa Ludwig, Teresa Berganza, Ileana Cotrubas as well as many theater and acting workshops.
Engaged by the Opéra National de Paris for the season 2000-2001 after winning its competition, he becomes part of the young artists program for three years, singing the Magic Flute (Tamino), Carmen (Remendado), La Vie Parisienne (the brasilian), Gianni Schicchi (Rinuccio), Lucia di Lammermoor (Arturo), among others. He has performed in France, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Greece, Holland, Colombia and Uruguay in a variety of recitals and operas, with a large range repertoire from Bach and Mozart to contemporary works from Petr Eben, Anita Baldi, Vanja and Vicente Pradal La Traviata, the Barber of Seville, Cosi fan tutte, Don Giovanni, Don Pasquale, The Abduction of the Serail are some of his roles.[citations needed]
He has also collaborated with different flamenco artists, multimedia and cinema, acting in several short films and a historic documentary, in France and Italy. He has composed music for 2 short movies. Among the future projects Echeverry Bernal will be seen in Recitals in Switzerland and France, he is now composing the music for the ballet Goddess, and will act in a short film in France.[citations needed]

- He comes from a family of Colombian intellectuals, who have loved arts and nature always. His mother is a professor of French at the university, studied vocal technique and sung a lot in choirs until she had 3 children. His father dedicated his life to the research of coffee, working as the director of the research program of Café de Colombia; Juan Carlos’s brother is finishing conducting and choir direction at the conservatory in Amsterdam. His sister is a psychologist who works with ancient therapeutic techniques of massage. Juan Carlos is the eldest son.
- He loves paintings and installations, history, ballet, jazz, flamenco, oriental music, Indian culture, design. Adores animals and nature, loves the see.
- He is semi-vegetarian,not eating meat at all, but although he doesn’t like to bother people with that so most of the time he doesn’t speaks about it. He loves fish and sea food.
