The JR Kyoto Line (JR京都線 JR Kyōto sen?) is the nickname of a portion of the Tōkaidō Main Line, between Kyoto Station and Osaka Station. The line is one of commuter rail lines and services in Osaka-Kobe-Kyoto Metropolitan Area, owned and operated by West Japan Railway Company (JR West).

The Kyoto Line operates in combination with the Biwako Line and the JR Kobe Line, and offers through service trains to the Kosei Line and the JR Takarazuka Line.

  • Special Rapid Service (新快速)
    • Continuing service from the Biwako Line and the Kosei Line. Stops at Kyoto, Takatsuki, Shin-Osaka, and Osaka. Continues from Osaka on the Kobe Line to Himeji and beyond.
  • Rapid Service (快速)
    • Continuing service from the Biwako Line and the Kosei Line. Stops at every station between Kyoto and Takatsuki (skips Nishi-Oji, Mukomachi, and Yamazaki during weekday mornings and nights), and then Ibaraki, Shin-Osaka, and Osaka. Continues from Osaka on the Kobe Line to Himeji and beyond.
  • Local trains (普通)
    • Service from Kyoto to Suma (daytime) and Nishi-Akashi (mornings and evenings) on the Kobe Line, and from Takatsuki to Shin-Sanda on the Takarazuka Line. Stops at all stations.

[edit] Stations under construction

Two stations are under construction on the JR Kyoto Line. Exact opening date is not available for either of the new stations.

  • JR Katsura Station (provisional name) will be in Minami-ku, Kyoto, between Nishi-Ōji Station and Mukōmachi Station (5.2 km from Kyoto Station).
  • Shimamoto Station (provisional name) will be in Shimamoto, Osaka, between Yamazaki Station and Takatsuki Station (16.3 km from Kyoto Station).
