[edit] Kurdish blogs
I was wondering what you intended with this article. We have a an article for Blog... --Cat out 22:24, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
- cp. Iranian blogs --Jpbrenna 22:54, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
- I'd prefer a reasoning. From my perspective both articles do not cover anything blog doesnt, both happen to be for link spam, and both can be argued to be pov forks...
- It would really help if I knew what they were for. Are they about the bloggs or people getting 'opressed'
- --Cat out 23:16, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
- They are about blogging in specific communities, like Canadian blogosphere and other articles on Wikipedia. It's true, the Kurdish and Iranian articles as they stand now are about one-half link repository; this should be corrected by destubbing the articles, not eliminating them. Article blog is not community-specific. We have articles separate from Education concerning Education in the United States and Education in France; I don't see how either of them are "POV forks," and I don't see how these blog articles are either. --Jpbrenna 01:50, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
- I wasnt going to prpose them for deletion. I just felt they needed some attention, which you agree.
- I am concerned about statemens such as "Blogging in Iran operates under special circumstances as the Iranian government tends to discourage self-expression" (weasle words, who says so) or "This is something they have not always been able to do via other media" (there were kurdish websites and Kurdish tv networks). Statements such as those imply "pov forking". Of course the intention wasnt that but it appears that way.
- Also I recomend a categorisation for all the "blog" related articles.

[edit] AWB
Howdy - Please remember the AWB rules of use and don't make edits like this. Thanks! -SCEhardT 15:08, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry - that was a spurious link from the articles created list on my talk page. I accidentally clicked on the "Save" button instead of "Ignore" when I got to it. On a lot of the other articles, the program seemed to be suggesting genuinely useful spacing and other organizational changes, such as moving template and stub tags etc. If I made any other bad edits, please let me know. (With the exception of East Colonisation: I'm working on that right now as I noticed some changes that could only be accomplished by hand). --Jpbrenna 15:14, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
Actually, taking a quick glance at your edits, I'd say that this one and this one didn't serve any purpose either. Just keep in mind that editing a page causes it to pop up in peoples' watch lists and makes the page history more complicated, so try not to edit unless it accomplishes something. Also, the 'edit' links on your talk page are broken for me (they link to the wrong conversation) in Firefox v.1.5.0.4 -SCEhardT 16:15, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your re-requesting of AWB
I am not an admin, just another passersby. I just curious, since your name is already on the CheckPage ([1] added here), why would you like to re-request? --Hunter 15:23, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
- Odd, I don't see any removal of any users on the checkpage ever since the addition of your name, perhaps it was due to some software bug I guess. Anyways, good luck with using the AWB! It's an awesome tool. --Hunter 15:38, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Latin translation needed
Hi there, JP, long time no see. I have a strange problem recently and I believe you might be able to help. There's a standard Latin form used in church birth registries everywhere in Europe at least until 19th century. It goes more or less like this: babtisavi infantem n(omi)ne Laurentium patris Symoni Masulis et Matris Catharinae Masulowa de villa Migance. I of course understand it, but this particular example is a tad problematic. To sum the controversy up, for me the name of Symoni Masulis in Nominative would be Symon Masul, while for some other guys the Nominative case would be Simon Masulis. What do you think? //Halibutt 19:16, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks. It took me some time to respond as I was kind of busy lately. In short, my thought went along the same lines but I needed confirmation from someone who speaks better Latin than yours truly. As a matter of fact the short text was used as an argument in a childish quarrel over a nationality of someone, whose parents could be either Masul (Masul, Masulis) or Masulis (Masulis, Masulisis?). Anyway, as a reward, please accept this Rosetta stone :) //Halibutt 04:14, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ossetic
Hi Joseph Thanks for the message.. as you can see the most complete book in English on Ossetic grammer is available here: [2]. The only problem is that the Ossetic words are spelled in Cyrilic which I do not read. I shall have some newer material soon as well but the above is the most complete manual on the subject. --Ali doostzadeh 00:26, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

Looks good. Equative case sounds cool, like you're talking to a horse or something. Do you know what it is? The comitative plural has an asterisk next to it, but I'm not sure what the footnote is. What's the basic word order? Good work so far. –jonsafari 05:57, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Earl Hancock Ellis — Unsourced edit
Hi,
I noticed you added this text to Earl Hancock Ellis back in 2005: "Some allege that he was assassinated by the Imperial Japanese authorities for his outspoken criticism of Japanese expansionist tendencies; others point out that he seems to have suffered from alcoholism and could conceivably have died of cirrhosis of the liver or some other alcohol-related disease." Thank you so much for your effort to improve the article about Ossetic. I had no enough time and confidence in my English to write something good on this topic. [edit] Re: Ossetic & other Iranian languages: transliteration
Hey. I'm guessing you'd like refs for the last paragraph of the "Writing system" section of the Ossetic article. As for the first [citation needed], I suspect you're right -- /æ/ is a very common sound in Iranian Persian. There's only six vowels in Iranian Persian, and /æ/ holds its own in terms of frequency. The problem is I don't have any refs offhand to back that up. Corpus searches are difficult since the Perso-Arabic script doesn't show the /æ/ very much, so it's hard to tell. Informal Romanized Persian (like in chat rooms, IM, SMS etc.) often merges the /æ/ and /ɒ/ orthographically to <a> (but sometimes they'll write <aa> for the later sound). As for the second [citation needed], I can't really say that I've seen that much "ǎ" used in transcriptions of Persian. In English yes (ie. Webster's and American Heritage, iirc), but not that much in Persian, as far as I've seen. Sorry dude. Wish I could help you out more. –jonsafari 22:23, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
