[edit] JP Mallory
Caught a big boo-boo in EIEC. Compare Srubna culture to Poltavka culture. The latter indicates it's co-ordinate with Srubna, and not a successor. Actually wrote him from the external link, but don't expect an answer. I've been reading this magnum opus like no one has, mining it for wikipedia -- try Chernoles culture or Sredny Stog culture --FourthAve 10:10, 3 August 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Katyn
Take a look on http://www.indeks.karta.org.pl/wyszukiwanie.asp --Witkacy 00:51, 6 August 2005 (UTC)
- Yup, the documents are in Russia, but the so-called Katyn Lists are here for all to see, although quite incomplete. All in all, there are the main lists of the three camps (some 14.000 names out of roughly 22.000) plus there is the so-called Ukrainian List which is still unknown... - Nope, the file mentions that the guy was imprisoned in the camp of Ostashkov and was killed in the NKVD prison in Tver (then called Kalinin). People killed there were either comming from Ostashkov or from various NKVD prisons in western USSR - hence the difference between the number of Ostashkov inmates and the number of Tver victims. Anyway, most of those killed in Tver were buried in the Miednoye mass graves.
[edit] Wake Island
I've restored the information about the massacre to the main article since it's such an important part of the island's history. At first I was concerned it may have been removed by some sort of "revisionist" but in looking at your contribs I quickly understood you were trying to organize, so please ignore the note of that possibility in my edit summary. The battle article is likely a helpful idea but I feel rather strongly that the short recounting of the massacre should remain in the main article as well. Many readers don't click on purely military articles, and the main article isn't so big that it needs trimming. Wyss 05:25, 9 August 2005 (UTC)
[edit] falsification in anti-Polonism
You could have put the remark on my talk page. I'm sorry of coining the new word. I can replace it, but then your remark will be pointless... If you have more remarks concerning my English don't hesitate to tell me about them. Alx-pl 08:34, 13 August 2005 (UTC)
By the way, here is an entry in 'Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary' on falsification. Similar entry has Merriam-Webster. It is a legitimate English word used in the proper meaning (see also here). Of course, the words you propose are used more often in the context and in general you are right in your message. It is only a bit too harsh for me... Alx-pl 08:46, 13 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Immaturity
Thanks for your kind words, I must say that I was not ready to be called an immature schizophrenic. Of course, I knew that perhaps some day, after years of hard work, someone might find my contributions worthy of such an award, but now? Anyway, I'd like to thank my family, without which I would've never been able to gain so much..
As to pictures of my girlfriend - well, you know, now she's on your part of the field, I'll wait with publishing her pics until she gets back ;) But seriously, I'll see what I can do (both computers broken..).
Oh, I almost forgot: there are two of her pics uploaded to wikipedia: here and here. I know it's not the kind of pics you expected, but these at least were made by her ;) Halibutt 07:30, August 17, 2005 (UTC)

- Well, you can't and that's the point: envy is a terrible thing :D But seriously, as to my gf - yup, she is on your side of the pond now, though she is not studying there. She does what an average future andragogist from a small country far, far away does in the US - she works on two shifts as a waitress in some crazed restaurant-factory (any better name for a country&western restaurant with room for roughly 2000 people?) in a G*d-forgotten town in Tennessee, famous as the hometown of Dolly Parton. Seems like a complete and utter nightmare, if you'd ask me. That's exactly what Europeans are warned of by intellectuals like Umberto Eco: 22-pounder-hamburgers, country music, factories pretending to be restaurants, copies of works of art in 3D pretending to be better than the originals and country music... yuck.
-
- Anyway, sorry about this evident example of lack of transculturation abilities on my side. As to my gf - here's a fake tabloid cover I made for her some time ago.
-
-
- Eco indeed wrote a number of essays on the Unitedstatesian culture, and especially on the love the Americans have for copies advertised as better than the originals. You know, Last Supper in 3D, Mona Lisa from head to toe, mediaeval Scottish castles in the middle of Texas and so on. As to country music - perhaps I'm slightly biased here, I admit. It's simply a kind of folk that doesn't move my feet when I hear it. As to my gf - it's been 3 months now since she left and hopefully only 1 month to go now. Halibutt 07:43, August 18, 2005 (UTC)

- No, she's not. But she was piloting an AN-2 at that very moment. As far as I know her former partner was a pilot (and an immature jerk, of course) - hence the picture in a cockpit.
- AAMoF she already spoke quite a decent English, as most of youngsters here in Poland do. She went there primarily for... you guessed it, money. And AFAIR the only place where she and her sister (yup, she has a youger sister) could find a decent Work&Travel contract was Tennessee.
- Unfortunately these times are long gone. In early nineties lots of people from English-speaking countries (rarely professional teachers) were comming to Poland or Czech Republic and most of them had no problems finding an easy and well-paid job as teachers. However, nowadays the money you can get from your language abilities is very limited.
- Watch my lips: Europe is sacred, Europe is good, everything in Europe is great. But seriously, I'll try to find the title of that essay for you, might be interesting. Halibutt 15:04, August 18, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Fürstenberg
I thought about putting the Fürstenberg (state) article in the Furstenberg page (I did that originally), but I decided against it for a couple of reasons:
- First the list of states was long
- Secondly there are a list of counts of Fürstenberg, as well as a small bit of information on this county, which is less relevant to the article than the family of Fürstenberg
- Lastly, the Furstenberg page deals more with the family through the ages, so I reckoned it would be better if the state and family were separated.
But do what you want with them :) --Nomadic1
- Me again :D Just went to the Fürstenberg page, and had a thought: Maybe it should become a proper disambiguation page, and the Fürstenberg (family) section be separated to its' own article linked from there. There is a lot of disambiguating there already. --Nomadic1
[edit] Catholic encyclopedia
I've noticed have made some contributions incorporating information from the Catholic encyclopedia into wikipedia. I've created a project page for the Catholic Encyclopedia as part of the Missing encyclopedic articles project to coordinate efforts and hopefully make the work easier.
