Joyce Banda

Joyce Hilda Banda (born 1951?) comes from Malemia village in the Zomba district of Malawi.
She is Member of Parliament for the Zomba-Malosa constituency and has been foreign minister of Malawi since a 1 June 2006 cabinet reshuffle by President Bingu wa Mutharika. Previously she had been Minister of Gender, Child Welfare and Community Services.
Banda founded the National Association of Business Women (NABW) in Malawi. She (jointly with President Joaquim Chissano of Mozambique) was awarded the 1997 Africa Prize for Leadership for the Sustainable End of Hunger by the Hunger Project, a New York-based non-governmental organization.
