Joy Mech Fight (ジョイメカファイト Joi Meka Faito?), sometimes called Joy Mecha Fight, is a versus fighter for the Famicom. It was Nintendo's first and only 1st-party fighting game. It was released in 1993, and was only available in Japan.

[edit] Story

Two scientists, Dr. Little Eamon and Dr. Ivan Warunachi, build the world's most spectacular robots. However, Warunachi steals the robots and turns them evil. To stop him, Eamon sends Skapon, the last good robot, to rescue all the other robots and turn them good again.

[edit] Gameplay

The game is somewhat like most versus fighters, but makes a few changes. Two players select humanoid robots, which have no visible arms or legs, to battle in an arena. While most fighters take place in limited areas, the arenas in this game scroll forever in either direction. The two players have to use a selection of attacks to take out each other. Each robot has three "lives" and will lose one if their energy runs out. If this happens, they move on to the next life, and the opponent will get back a small amount of energy. When one player runs out of lives, he loses.

As well as the "single match" modes, Joy Mech Fight also contains a story mode that is unlike many versus fighters. The player starts with the main robot, Skapon, and he must earn the other seven by defeating them- also, it is possible to select who will be battled next. Once all seven are obtained, there is an unobtainable boss robot who must be defeated. After this the player moves onto the second of four sets, each with eight robots and one boss robot. No robots past this point can be used by the player, but the order can still be selected.
