Jovovich-Hawk is a line of clothing, now in its third season, created by fashion models Milla Jovovich and Carmen Hawk. Jovovich-Hawk pieces can be found at Fred Segal in Los Angeles, Harvey Nichols, and over 50 stores around the world. Vogue has praised the line for its "girl-about-town cult status most designers spend years trying to achieve."[1]

[edit] Background

Jovovich-Hawk was established by Jovovich and Hawk in 2003. The two met over 13 years ago and have become close friends. Both women are adamant that the collections are for all ages and sizes, even using Jovovich's mother as a size model.

The collection is inspired by strong women, with a feminine vintage edge. Jovovich explains to Taipei Times, "For us, it's about strong women or making women feel strong. When I first met Carmen, what I liked about her was that she was a strong but still feminine woman, and that she didn't have to show she was strong by wearing baggy jeans or whatever, like I was doing. But also, I look around America and there are so many girls who feel they have to walk around half-naked to attract men and we're just trying to say: Do you really have to do that? And would you really want to attract those kinds of men anyway?"."[2]

In the 2006 spring collection, each piece has a name that pays homage to art, literature or film. The dress worn for C (California Style)'s photo shoot is known as the "Carly", after Carly Simon. Also the "Vivian", a white lace minidress inspired by illustrations of early 20th century artist Henry Darger and a floral piece named "Sissy", which Jovovich dubs "a Carrie prom dress" after Sissy Spacek's role in the horror film Carrie.[3]

[edit] Success

The line's first collection, which amounted to eight pieces, was impressive enough to catch the eye of John Eshaya, women's creative director for Ron Herman at Fred Segal. The pieces were sold exclusively at its stores; the line almost instantly sold-out. The line's second season was equally - if not more - successful, with 'Fred Segal' re-ordering its stock mid way through the season.

In an interview with Pravda.com, Jovovich answers if the line is a success, "On the whole, I guess it is. You can buy clothes of my line in sixty five stores all over the world. There’s also a store in Moscow that sells my clothes, I saw it myself!"[4].

In Jovovich's upcoming film, Resident Evil: Extinction, the costume she will be wearing is a Jovovich-Hawk design.
