[edit] Plot
When heavy rains create a mysterious "new water", Littlefoot sets off to explore the Great Valley. He quickly becomes friends with Mo the mischievous Ophthalmosaurus who has been isolated from his pod by the weather. When Littlefoot and friends get separated from their parents because of the Earthshake, they help Mo get back home to the Big Water, while avoiding a hungry Liopleurodon. On the way, Littlefoot and Mo discuss such interesting things as imaginary friends, the concept of loneliness, and the true meaning of a brother.

[edit] Trivia
- This was the first Land Before Time film to contain more than three songs.
- This was the last Land Before Time film in which Thomas Dekker provided Littlefoot's voice.
- In this film, Littlefoot wishes his mother could have given him a brother. As seen from the broken eggs in Littlefoot's nest and the narrator's word that he was his herd's "last hope for the future" in The Land Before Time, he did have brothers (and perhaps sisters) but they all died as eggs. Littlefoot refers Mo as his "mud" brother. He got his wish, however, when he found his father, Bron and had adopted Shorty in The Land Before Time X: The Great Longneck Migration.
- This was the first Land Before Time film in which the eggs are computer-animated; they can be seen when Littlefoot and his friends find Ducky in a female Diplodocus's nest.
- Mo's name may derive from Mosasaurus, an ancient marine reptile and the first prehistoric reptile recognized by science.
- The last film in the series to use James Horner's original score until The Land Before Time XI: Invasion of the Tinysauruses (If We Hold On Together was played for the last time when the gang reach the Big Water).
- The Internet Movie Database mistakes Sierra (voiced by Jim Cummings; from The Land Before Time VII: The Stone of Cold Fire) to be in this film.
- This was the fourth time Spike sings; he can be heard humming during Big Water. Later, after Petrie yodels, so does Spike.
- The first film in the series to use a more advanced digital ink and paint system, including brighter colours and more elaborate shading for the characters.
- This sequel marks Mo's first and only full appearance (currently), but he does make cameo appearances in The Land Before Time X: The Great Longneck Migration and The Land Before Time XII: The Great Day of the Flyers.
