[edit] Merging

The Category was started and populated by User:Afganets, I just clicked the red link and formally created the cat. When I did this, I also thought about changing the cat to Category:Murdered journalists but thought that been killed on a war is different from being murdered. abakharev 23:14, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

I would advise against such a merger, as "murdered" and "Killed in action", meaning while performing duties, are very far apart. People could be murdered during a robbery, or their could be a contract killing, again different from being killed in the field while performing their duties. If a war photographer, like Robert Capa is killed after stepping on a landmine, could this be called "murder"? Don't think so. Tha is why having two different categories makes it more precise, correct and interesting for readers. Afghanets 10:20, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

A merger would be a mistake. Two individual Categories are needed to separate persons whose occupation is as a journalist and is murdered (say in their home) from persons who are journalists and are murdered while performaing their job (role) as a journalist.

Merging is not a good idea, I agree that targetted murder is different from the more random losses of those killed in action. Jaraalbe 09:08, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
