Josh Klinghoffer

Josh Klinghoffer (October 4, 1979) is a musician and music producer from Los Angeles, California. He has played extensively with John Frusciante on his 2004/05 solo works. For whatever reason, his nickname is Kobe.
Klinghoffer plays guitar, drums, synthesizer, bass, and keyboards, and has appeared on records by The Bicycle Thief, Golden Shoulders, Ataxia, Thelonious Monster, and John Frusciante, including A Sphere In The Heart Of Silence, for which he receives production credit. Josh turned down the chance to tour with Nine Inch Nails to stay with The Bicycle Thief. Klinghoffer is currently part of the supergroup Ataxia, as drummer alongside Frusciante and Fugazi bassist Joe Lally. They released a debut album, Automatic Writing in 2004, and are scheduled to release a second on March 6, 2007. Josh has performed live and toured with Jon Brion, Vincent Gallo, and the Butthole Surfers. He toured with Beck in 2003 playing guitar during his "Sea Change" tour, and he also toured extensively with PJ Harvey in 2004 to support her Uh Huh Her album. In 2005 and 2006, Josh played with Michael Rother.
Throughout 2006, he toured with Sparks - initially as second guitarist, and later as the only guitarist when the first guitarist, Dean Menta, disappeared in mysterious circumstances. When questioned, Klinghoffer declined to comment. The guitar he played on the Sparks tour was a custom build, and was presented to him to keep as a birthday present.
As well as touring, he also appears as a guest musician on albums by Gemma Hayes - The Roads Don't Love You, 2005, and Charlotte Hatherley's second album, released in 2007.
He last toured with Gnarls Barkley, playing keyboards; a role he accepted because he'd never played keyboards on tour before.
Most recently, he has collaborated with Toni Oswald in The Diary of Ic Explura, a conceptual work comprised of only the duo. Ic Explura was the nickname that John Frusciante gave Toni in the early 90's.
On the final night of the Gnarls Barkley / Red Hot Chili Peppers tour, Josh played with the Peppers during their outro jam, marking the first time he shared the stage with his good friends.
At Adelaide - the first night of the Red Hot Chili Peppers' 2007 Australian tour - Klinghoffer contributed acoustic and electric (rhythm) guitar parts, played floor tom during the song Hump De Bump, synthesisers during various jams, and bass during a jam featuring Flea on trumpet.
