Joseph Ngwenya (born March 30, 1981 in Plumtree, Zimbabwe) is a Zimbabwean soccer player who currently plays forward for the Columbus Crew of Major League Soccer.
Ngwenya was drafted third overall by the Los Angeles Galaxy in the 2004 MLS SuperDraft out of Coastal Carolina University, where he led the NCAA in scoring with 21 goals and 14 assists and was named a First Team All-American in 2003. During his college years he also played in the USL Premier Development League for Cape Cod Crusaders.
In his first year with the Galaxy, he played at both forward and midfield and finished the year with 4 goals in 22 games, most of them coming off the bench. In his second year, he did not score a goal or an assist. Ngwenya was involved in a 4-person trade on May 12, 2006, which sent him to the Crew, for whom he would play 20 games and score 5 goals in 2006.
In the period following the 2006 season, Ngwenya went on trial at Getafe in the Spanish first division, but failed to earn a contract.[1]
As of December 2006, Ngwenya has yet to earn an international cap for Zimbabwe.[2] For the 2007 winter market, is possible that Ngwenya sign for Getafe CF.
