Joseph Lee Heywood

Joseph Lee Heywood (August 12, 1837 - September 7, 1876) was head teller at the First National Bank of Northfield, Minnesota at the time of its attempted robbery by Jesse James and his gang of outlaws. Heywood was shot to death after refusing to open the safe, falsely claiming that it was secured by a time lock.

Heywood also held positions as Treasurer for the City of Northfield and Treasurer of Carleton College.
