Joseph Höffner (24 December 1906 - 16 October 1987) was a Cardinal Priest and Archbishop of Cologne in the Roman Catholic Church.
Born in Horhausen, Joseph Höffner was Bishop of Münster (1962-1969) and Archbishop of Cologne as successor of Josef Frings from 1969 to 1987.
He was made a Cardinal by Pope Paul VI in 1969. From 1976 to 1987 Joseph Höffner was chairman of the Congregation of the German Bishops and thus the highest representative of the Catholic Church in Germany.
The late Cardinal Höffner was conferred in 2003 the honor of "Righteous Among the Nations" by the state of Israel , for having saved Jewish lives during World War II.
